only into the low 20s but into the teens across parts of the napa valley. that's where we're headed. overnight lows, nap that 19, even san jose expected to get down to 22 degrees. even though we got down to 29. it hasn't been this cold since january 13 earlier this year. when we got down to 26 degrees. so again tonight, expecting to be one of the coldest nights. and here's the other thing. this is the eighth consecutive morning that we're going to be waking up with temperatures below 32 degrees. in napa. and the last time we saw something like this, a long-term cold snap, that was back january 10 where we were below freezing for our morning lows for 12 days in a row. 4 we all know the cold is tack a toll on your body. the california crops are starting to take their toll. monty, how cold is it where you are? >> it's pretty gold. in fact, this is the man made snow from the ice skating rink across the street. i've had it since about 6:00 tonight. you can see that it hasn't really melted at all. right now, it is a very chilly 33 dpst mere at walnut creek right now. the pitter cold is no

into the north bay. for napa, marin, also sonoma counties will temperatures will easily range from 21 to 36 degrees. the most critical thing right now is to know that by 10:00 p.m. tonight, temperatures will likely be in the 20s in napa, also santa rosa, down to 27. livermore, 36 and san jose expecting 38. now, this cold weather that's started off way back last week here helped to develop this storm system across the east coast. that storm system has now started to lift out, but it produced a lot of problems. take a look at this here across portions of new england, as they have -- commuters have been stranded by this snowstorm causing numerous delays across those airports. now, the ripple effects are being felt here. 32 flights in and out of sfo were canceled this morning. we caught up with a 49ers fan from texas who had to wait a little longer than he wanted to get home. >> a lot of the businesses and schools already closed. everybody called in closed. yeah, it was quite a bit of ice out there. >> had to change my flight from dallas to united to houston. >> at least, of course, they

that we did have. that was here in napa with just a wind five to ten miles per hour and made temperatures feel like 24 degrees this morning. definitely some of the coldest weather we have been mentioning in nine months. let's take you outside right now and unbelievable. what we're dealing with for these averages in the north bay. right now 38 degrees and san francisco 49 and also the peninsula at 47. let's take you into san francisco and we'll be near record-setting lows and 37 degrees expected with clear skies and by 1:00 p.m. and temperatures at 51 degrees. get some warming in there but jacket weather, again, for tomorrow. you'll also see here across the peninsula, a colder start for you, as well. temperatures near 30 degrees across palo alto. so, hopefully, you've got some sort of great deal on a jacket on black friday because you're going to need it. freeze warning the next 24 hours. we have now extended this here to the east bay and also for the south bay so this means for you temperatures will also range 25 to 36 degrees as we continue throughout tomorrow morning. so, i

six days new records here in santa rosa. that also goes for napa and lots of the north bay. freeze warning in effect for tuesday morning in all of the bay area except san francisco. outside, it is still getting very cold. 39 degrees is your average. 47 in the south bay. not overly chilly in san francisco. you're going to see that number drop a lot more. right now we're dealing with winds 5 to about 10 miles per hour. those numbers are going to go down this cold as we head throughout the morning hours. 19 in napa. santa rosa 22. mill valley also 25. as we look ahead towards tuesday morning, san jose expecting 27. let's get a focus in on the next possible shift in that forecast to give us some warmer weather. we still have plenty of this chilly air moving right across california, but the hope in the forecast is going to come by a slight shift. we're going to see this chilly air gradually move off towards to the east. warmer air should be warming up our temperatures. it's still going to be cold in the overnight hours. what you're going to see in napa is by thursday and friday, instead

degrees. not only temperatures in the 30s, but already in the 20s. napa at 26. novato at 25. freeze warning until friday morning for most of the bay area except san francisco. that's when temperatures range 25 to 30 degrees. take the pets inside and protect those plants. overall, you're going to notice some of the largest impacts across the south bay, including san jose. that's where we're joined by anthony with a warning for the morning commuters. >> that's right, jeff. in fact, the warning is, for bridges and overpasses, you know just as well as i do, that the bridges and overpasses do freeze more quickly than other surfaces. and the reason behind that is, because you lose a lot of the heat across not only the top part of the bridge but the bottom part and the sides. that cold air invades every location across the bridges and overpasses. tomorrow morning, that's the main threat that we're going to be watching for, commuters head out across the bay area. bridges and overpasses will freeze quickly. as many of them have already probably started to freeze in the forth bay, with the te

. look at napa, 19 degrees in napa. we have fallen into the teens, 28 in san mateo, it two 8 in livermore and 30 degrees here in san jose so it's cold out there. as we head throughout afternoon temperatures in the 40s and low 50s. temperatures are going to be really chilly in walnut creek. 49 in pleasanton. bundle up the little ones. if you do have pets and plants outdoors try to bring them in as soon as possible this morning because we're getting into the coldest point of the day. our next weathermaker arrives through about 5:00 p.m. tomorrow. a little shower activity at that point. in the north bay, mount st. helena could see snow. throughout saturday morning it gets interesting between about 5:00 and 7:00 we could see a low level dusting of snow. our futurecast which is completely computer generated. actually agrees with me and they are bringing the mix of snow and rain bright to the valley floor in the south bay. that's something we're going to watch for, for you as we get through the next couple of days. we'll keep on tracking the changes. i want to show you your tri-valley seven-day

they had to de-ice planes before they took off. back to the north in wine country napa set a record low, we're hearing they may set another this morning. that was cold enough to completely freeze a fountain there in wine country. back in martinez on the road you'll see it's dry, there is no ice. did a good job of getting the sand and the salt down on the roads so cars are able to move through. if you are heading out, traveling across the major bridges or overpasses here in the bay area, please do take care, there were inches of clack ice out yesterday. that means the potential is there for there to be more black ice on your commute. the latest live, chase cain, "today in the bay." >> watch out for that black ice and if you're headed to the tahoe area. this is a look at highway 50 at meyers, if you plan to head to tahoe here's what you need to know. winter storm warning in effect from tonight through tomorrow morning. higher elevations could see up to one foot of fresh powder. right now no chains are required but it's likely to change as snow saturdays to fall later today so. always

reports of low snow that has been remarkable for bay area standards. into napa county is where we had snow that was slowing commuters down quite a bit likely potentially a half inch to over an inch. all that snow on the ground that could create icy and dangerous roads in the north bay. right now we have the heaviest zone across the trivalley and rainfall amounts to a tenth to a quarter inch per hour. san francisco getting nailed good down to about the airport producing delays there. back across the trivalley, this is where it is extremely dangerous. temperatures approaching the 30s and potentially icy spots on the roadwa roadways. highway 60 is the sore spot. you want to do not any early morning traveling as this rainfall will likely linger for the next two to hours. snow reports on highway 17, that is going to be extremely dangerous all the way through the mid-and late morning hours for tomorrow. that's where i am pinpointing the worst travel. the winter weather advisory and we want more from nbc bay area's cheryl hurd. i can see the traffic behind you. what are things like at this m

we had 19 degrees earlier this morning in napa. broke a record here in the south bay when we bottomed out at 25 degrees. so let's get right to it. another night of widespread frost. the temperatures are going to creep up a touch this evening. but overall, it's still going to be cold enough for that widespread frost tomorrow morning. make sure you keep an eye on your pets and dress in layers. then high pressure really starts to take control as we head through the next few days. this is going to do two things. it's going to bring about a gradual warming trend. it sets up shop over the bay area. we're going to see this stagnant air mass. as a result, that thick layer of smoke gets kind of capped right over the bay area. as we head throughout the next couple days, we'll likely be sparing the air as a result. not a lot of wind and no rain to clear this out. our next chance for rain doesn't even come until we hit friday into saturday. and it's not looking very good right now. about 10% shot up in the north bay. otherwise, a gradual warming trend headed our way. at the end of the we

napa got down to 26 degrees. a lot of this cold air is across most of the bay area. i wanted to point out the north bay, most of 101 right now is dealing with some patchy black ice. so you do want to make sure you are taking it easy on the roads this morning. it's still below freezing from napa to novato. as we widen out, you can see still below freezing in places like livermore where they're at 31. even concord the 32. san jose 32 right now and sunnyvale 29 cold degrees. we are cold, and even dangerously cold. this is the kind of weather you have to take it easy in and take it cautiously on those roadways. waking up to some beautiful sunrises this morning across the peninsula, the east bay, even san francisco. our camera guy back there adjusting some of those shots. you can see if you look at the peninsula, just an awesome shot. just a few high thin clouds. by the afternoon hours, we'll get rid of the clouds but we're not going to get rid of the cold. we only top out in the mid to upper 40s across the entire bay today and that freeze warning, that actually remains in effect through t

by hour in napa, what you're going to find starting at midnight through 6:00 a.m. tomorrow, will be staying below freezing, six to eight hours time below freezing. and tomorrow in the 40s, you can see the cold change in the seven-day forecast there at the bottom of the screen. the other interesting part of the forecast comes in friday morning. we're going to see another weather system that might have more moisture than the one we saw yesterday that could bring some snow showers, certainly down to at least 2,000 feet in the sierra we have a winter storm watch. but for lakeport and some of those cold air trapped valleys, we could see snow showers mixed with some of that rain at times. early on friday and then that system starts to clear on out. now, in the sierra, certainly going to see the snow. as you can see the totals, not just for the high country which will see a foot of snow out of this system. even down to the sierra foothills. imagine if you're traveling interstate 880, chaining up at auburn or placerville, things will be cold in the area. we might see a rain and snow mix on

are expected to be the coldest. napa are expected to get to 21 degrees. this has been a very long cold spell. now the seventh consecutive day waking up with temperatures below freezing across the bay area. we will have more on the cold snap and when we are expected to warm up. >>> this cold weather has many people bundled upt at home. for those without a home the cold can be deadly. >> reporter: the workers here at eac are hoping to prevent another death related to the cold weather. this shelter is open 24 hours a day. the regular lottery system is suspended and at this point no one will be turned away. there are lots of people here inside that are grateful. sleeping on the street is dangerous in this weather. four homeless men have died during this cold spell. it is a grim reality that has some people going through their closet bringing in warm supplies to donate. >> just because of the time of year. i have a warm house. i see on the news all of the people that are out there. >> staff here spent the morning out searching for the homeless delivering blankets and socks to people. t

today, some of the chilliest weather is in napa. we are certainly going to rival all of that as we head to tomorrow morning. even a few spots colder. like the eastbound. and also for the southbound. they have now been added into the freeze warning. primarily as we head throughout tomorrow morning. temperatures ranging 25 to 36 degrees. the only spot that is not included in that is san francisco. you can see it's not shaded. also in this, of course, san jose all the way down to morgan hill and also gilroy where temperatures could range between 25 to 36 degrees. we're averaging temperatures to the upper 30s and low 40s across the northbound. san francisco, the eastbound with 41. let's take you across the south bay. across the soub 7:00 a.m., 31 degrees. 3:00 p.m., just expecting 50. it will be sunny. more on that coming up."sw let's take you to the overall pattern. this is different than just plain old cool air coming across the bay. we pull down all of this cooler air from canada to alaska. for at least the next two days. chilly mornings with us. we're going to see numbers replicate
